After viewing and reading the 4
resources in this week’s module, I am in complete agreement that there is an
overwhelming abundance of information available to us on the web! The youtube video InfoWhelm and Informational
Fluency https://youtu.be/cWkQq5qmdmc , the
article post Creating Classrooms We Need:
8 Ways into Inquiry Learning and The
Journey from Digital Literacy to Digital Fluency did a great job giving comfort that even
though there is a new learning trend on the rise with technology students need
to be instructed in ways to truly explore and understand the content that is available
to them on the web. As teachers we do
not have to give up all of our old ways of teaching but we do have to learn the
new way that students are learning and change our styles in ways that we are
still comfortable with. The Journey from Digital Literacy to Digital
Fluency shared how she was able to slowly make connections and how she did
not decide to conquer the whole technology world or completely change her
teaching instead she did it slowly and to a degree in which she was comfortable.
One of my learning goals for this
class is about learning how to deal with all the information that is out in the
world today. Being older and having more
worldly experiences we know that we can’t believe everything that we read or
see on the web, however we have to provide learning experiences where our
students will learn and make connections.
These resources reminded me that as a
teacher I am not the only person teaching.
My students are constantly teaching me new aspects of technology on a
daily basics.
I will leave you with these final
thoughts:
You can teach an old dog new tricks or
a teacher new technology options!
Everyone you come in contact with can
teach you something new!
It is okay to be overwhelmed, the web
is like car buying. There are various
makes and models all around. Each year the companies are tweaking and changing components
to make things better and more user friendly.
